Inside or outside, nonfiction writers are always on the prowl for fascinating writing ideas.

Explorers love gear, so …..grab your curiosity ….a library card, small notebook, pencils, and a magnifying glass, then push open the door to a treasure house of true stuff about the real world.…

Here we go……

  • List topics that interest you a lot…….I mean a lot.

  • Choose your absolute favorite…easy to write about what you love.

  • Find books about your topic.

  • Read…take notes…especially write your questions.

  • Choose the question that intrigues you the most.

  • Research to find the answer…in books…the internet…a person.

  • Draw your topic....slowly…magnify it….draw it again… label your drawing….

  • WOW!  There is the great idea.

  • Now write as you speak. Include a drawing?

  • Yay you!........Now let's head outside...

Outside explorations need bug repellent, plastic bags, a bag or backpack, hat, binoculars and camera if possible, and all the rest we used inside.

Explorers say, there is no such thing as bad weather...only bad               equipment...very important...dress for the weather…

  • Become a detective sort of observer…look up, down, right, left….

  • Slowly pay attention to what makes you stop…stare…

  • Draw it…label the parts… magnify it… draw it like that…

  • Jot down questions… until… Wham!  There is the super idea…

  • Outside or inside…..research the answer to your question…

  • Then write as you speak….Hooray!  You are a nonfiction writer!

Remember: never harm or take anything living from its habitat…only things that have fallen to the ground or wash up on shore. Be a habitat hero……yay, you!
