Educational Programs

The Assembly...........................audience size: no maximum

Assembly programs are 45 minutes long, excluding introductions, full of storytelling, enthusiasm for curiosity, research, libraries, reading, and creating. I describe how I get my ideas, and the perils of research…a tarantula crawling up my arm, a polar bear breathing in my face. My research photos on overhead transparencies provide visuals. I am very enthusiastic about writing non-fiction natural science and poetry. My goal is to motivate and inspire students to the joy of the creative process and writing. I am a lifetime learner in love with this beautiful world.

 

 

Hands-On With Smaller Groups................................audience size: 30-125

I like to have 45-60 minutes with students for their questions and to model a respectful “writers workshop.” I do a grade appropriate writing technique with each group, with student participation. I show students how to trap ideas, interview scientists and naturalists, and revise their work. I like to make students aware of the importance of good research and accuracy. I love this time with students, for one of the great joys of my life has been my previous experience as a teacher.
